Acceptable Use Policy

Effective Date: December 18, 2025

This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") describes acceptable and prohibited uses of PubNub’s products, services, APIs, SDKs, and websites (collectively, the “Services”). This AUP is designed to protect our customers, their end users, and PubNub by promoting lawful, secure, and responsible use of real-time technology.

This AUP is incorporated into and forms part of the applicable agreement governing your use of the Services (such as the Master Subscription Agreement or equivalent). Capitalized terms not defined here have the meanings given in those agreements.

General Principles

You agree to use the Services:

In compliance with all applicable laws and regulations;

In accordance with your agreement with PubNub and our published documentation;

check

In a manner that does not harm PubNub, other customers, or end users.

You are responsible for all activity that occurs through your accounts, API keys, applications, and integrations.

Prohibited Uses

You may not use, attempt to use, or allow others to use the Services to:

Illegal, Harmful, or Fraudulent Activity

Violate any applicable local, national, or international law or regulation;

Infringe or misappropriate the intellectual property, privacy, or other rights of others;

Engage in fraud, deception, phishing, impersonation, or other misleading practices;

Distribute or facilitate malware, spyware, ransomware, or other malicious code.

Security and Network Abuse

Interfere with, disrupt, or degrade the integrity or performance of the Services or third-party networks;

Attempt to probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of PubNub systems without authorization;

Bypass or circumvent service safeguards, rate limits, access controls, or usage restrictions;

Access or use the Services without authorization or outside the scope of your agreement.

Abuse of the Platform or Other Users

Use the Services to transmit unlawful, defamatory, harassing, hateful, or abusive content;

Send unsolicited bulk messages or spam where prohibited by law or agreement;

Operate applications that materially impair other customers’ ability to use the Services.

Intellectual Property and Competitive Misuse

Reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or attempt to derive source code or underlying algorithms of the Services, except to the extent expressly permitted by law;

Remove or obscure proprietary notices or attribution;

Use the Services to build, benchmark, or offer a competing real-time messaging or infrastructure service without PubNub’s prior written consent.

Data Protection and Privacy

You are responsible for ensuring that your use of the Services complies with applicable data protection and privacy laws, including providing required notices and obtaining necessary consents from end users.

You must not:

Process personal data unlawfully or without appropriate authorization;

Use the Services to collect or transmit sensitive data in violation of applicable law or your agreement with PubNub.

AI and Automated Use (If Applicable)

If you use PubNub features or integrations that include artificial intelligence or automated decision-making capabilities:

You must not represent AI-generated outputs as being reviewed, approved, or endorsed by PubNub;

You must ensure appropriate human oversight for decisions with legal or similarly significant effects;

You must not use such features to train or improve competing AI or machine learning models, except as expressly permitted by PubNub.

Monitoring and Enforcement

PubNub may investigate suspected violations of this AUP. If we reasonably determine that you have violated this AUP, we may:

Require corrective action;

Suspend or limit access to the Services;

Terminate your access in accordance with your agreement;

Report unlawful activity to appropriate authorities, where required or permitted by law.

Reporting Violations

If you become aware of a violation of this AUP or security issues related to the Services, please notify PubNub promptly at privacy@pubnub.com.

Changes to This Policy

PubNub may update this AUP from time to time to reflect changes in technology, law, or our Services. We will update the effective date above when changes are made. Continued use of the Services after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised AUP.
